The curse will bring the whole castle of Hogwarts down (the castle will lose its magic with no hope of reviving it again). The curse was put in place by one Salazar Slytherin as revenge against Godric Gryffindor for breaking his heart. The only solution: the current head of the house of Slytherin must fall in love with the one who set the curse off within one school term meaning ten months and it must be reciprocated. Severus is not pleased.

Gothic Fantasy Fest is a Harry Potter fanworks fest dedicated to and centered around our love for the gothic horror genre!

This fest is hosted by The Writing Heirs of Slytherin Discord Server.

Fest Information

The inspiration to host this fest came out of our desire to see more fanworks in the fandom where the darkness within us all is celebrated, embraced, and reveled in.

The premise for this fest is simple: Create any fanwork (fic or fanart) you like, ensuring that your main protagonist of your work is a Slytherin!

But, and this is where the challenge comes in... your fanwork must incorporate one of the gothic horror prompts that we have provided and must be in the gothic horror genre!

We hope, through participating in this fest, that you’ll allow yourself to indulge in what haunts you most!

All levels of writers and artists are welcome! Even if this is your first fest!

All pairings and ship types (platonic, couples, and polyships) are allowed in this fest. You may also choose to focus your fanwork on only one character.

Ensure that your main character of your fanwork is a Slytherin (no exceptions)!

Any Slytherin from any of the Wizarding World eras is welcome. You may also choose to headcanon a non-Slytherin character as a Slytherin.

Your fanwork must incorporate one of the 99 gothic horror prompts that we provide. There are 12 additional Author/Artist’s choice prompts, however, those are first come, first serve. So, they will go quick!

Ensure that your fanwork qualifies as gothic horror. Read our full rules at the link listed below for further clarification on this.

The darker your fic the better, as this fest is the perfect opportunity to create some dark, morally gray, and/or dead-dove works!

Authors: there is no maximum word count for your work. But there is a minimum word count of 1,000 words.

Artists: As long as you follow the guidelines above, you may submit any form of fanart you like, including moodboards! However, AI-generated work and commissioned work from other artists may NOT be submitted!

This fest is an Author/Artist Revealed event. Your fanwork will be revealed on the dates listed above. When the fest is over, we will highlight your fanwork across our social media from Oct. 31st - Nov. 9th.

A Few Reminders

For this fest, there is a one claim per prompt policy.

The only exception to this is our Author/Artist’s choice prompt, which we are allowing up to 12 people to claim. However, once those 12 slots are gone, they’re gone.

You must claim your prompt on AO3 first, then, sign-up. Why? The form will ask you for the prompt # of the prompt you claimed.

You may only claim one prompt at this time. Later on, after sign-ups close, and if there are any prompts left, if you happen to submit your fanwork for your first claim before the fest deadline, you may then claim a second prompt. But remember, the Oct. 17th fest deadline will still apply. 🪄

Welcome to the prompting period for the 2024 AUctoberfest!

Prompting is open until June 30th.

You may leave up to 10 prompts with no obligation to claim.

You do not need to be a member of the House of Snarry discord group to leave a prompt. All Snarry fans are welcome!

We allow anonymous prompting and self-prompting (ie. if you also want to claim a prompt you have submitted for the fest, you’re welcome to do so.)

After you submit a prompt, it will appear on the prompt list.

Prompts have a 500-character limit.

The aim of this fest is to encourage fanworks that focus on Snarry and Alternate Universe possibilities (ie. a radically different time period or location, non-magic, outer space etc., or those influenced by other media). Fest works are permitted within the canon universe as long as there’s a major divergence from the canon world or storyline. Snape Lives and/or EWE on their own are not enough to qualify as AU for the purpose of this fest.

Please consider the spirit of this fest: imagining the multitude of ways in which Severus and Harry fall in love across all different worlds, timelines and possibilities.

Another Season of Flora!

Okie dokie! According to a quick interest check, we're gonna move forward with some new prompts for spooky season! Wahoo! 🎉🌻🎃 The Autumn Mini Round runs from Oct. 1 - Oct. 31, 2024. As a refresher, this open prompt challenge is inspired by floriography, the language of flowers (and plants) and encourages creators to use text and photo prompts to make fic, art and more. General challenge info and timeline will be the same as last year, so please be sure to read the Mini Round Guidelines and the challenge FAQ thoroughly, whether you're a returning participant or you're trying the challenge for the first time. Potter’s face was turned to him with a half-lidded, distant expression. A wide gap separated their metal-framed beds, but the boy was still within arms reach. Upon consideration, he looked much less boyish. His dark hair was longer and wilder than Severus had ever seen, messy waves across the chalky-white hospital pillow. Potter's mouth was slack and listless.

Harry blinked and nodded once. “Professor Snape. Good morning.”

Severus opened his lips to answer, but a searing pain tore his throat. Before he had a chance to determine the extent of the damage, an alarm blared and healers flurried into the room.

There's an outbreak of Hanahaki, and Curse Breaker Hyacinth Potter is brought onto the case, to work closely with the Aurors and Unspeakable Sulpicia Snape. Snape doesn't have a romantic bone in her body, and Hyacinth is happily in love with Ginny Weasley. They have nothing to worry about...right?

Wow, okay, I'm bouncing around with delight! Notearchiver (an excellent writer, in case you haven't encountered their work) surprised me with a podfic of my serenade to Snape/Harry from 2008, The White Road! This tremendous undertaking (the fic is 48K words long) is one of Note's contributions to Battleship 2024, a fanworks game that has just gone live on AO3 with over 2000 new entries covering more than 500 fandoms.

I've barely started listening, and it will be a while before I have a chance to sit down with the whole recording - partly because I need to get over my secondhand embarrassment at hearing my own lines read out loud. I know my inner critic is on the clock 24/7, but I didn't know I'd start squirming and judging my word choices and images, etc. I have a bad habit of compulsively editing every time I even look at my own writing, but feeling the same urge to revise while merely listening is ridiculous.

Anyway, please hop over and give it a try! It's Notearchiver's first podfic attempt, so they warn it's not perfect - but we do this for fun and the love of it. That's why the fic exists in the first place. I look forward to experiencing TWR from an entirely new angle, made fresh by Note's voice and interpretation. 💖🤩

HP Cottagecore Fest is a Harry Potter cottagecore themed prompt challenge. It'll run Sept 4th - Oct 1st. 🧺🧺🧺

There will be prompts for each week under three categories: color, word, and picture.

◦ Create a work that corresponds to each prompt.  ◦ You may combine all three categories or any combination thereof.   ◦ You may also combine prompts from any other week. For example, you may use a prompt from week 1 and a prompt from week 3 together in one single work.  ◦ Interpret the prompts however you like! You don’t need to strictly stick to them or feel the need to include the colors/words/settings directly into your work.

All medium types are welcomed! 

◦ Fic: no word limit. It can be a short 50 words microfic, a one-shot, or a long multi-chaptered work.  ◦ Art: any medium!
